Setting aside time for reflection gives us the opportunity to pause amidst the chaos, invigorate our thinking and take charge of our lives.

Bill Gates, one of the world’s richest men, is a strong advocate of the power of taking time off for reflection – He devotes a week every year to read and reflect.

We can reap the same benefits by setting aside just 10 to 15 minutes, daily, weekly and monthly.

Here’s what your reflection routine could look like:

Monthly: Reflect and journal on these critical, yet basic questions like:

  • Am I satisfied with my career, relationships, health and personal growth?
  • Am I getting closer to the life I want?
  • What small action can I start taking every day?

Weekly: Plan your week with intention:

  • What are my wins?
  • What are the tasks I should schedule that serve my long-term goals?
  • What did I learn this week?

Daily: Take 10 minutes to review your day:

  • What was the most important thing I wanted to accomplish today?
  • Did I do my best to take a small, committed action towards that?
  • What am I grateful for?
  • What is something that I wanted to stop doing or have outgrown?

You will be amazed at how much these tiny reflection pauses will energise you, sharpen your focus and ensure you are designing – not just reacting to – your life.
