Happy September!
To support you in being F.I.R.S.T. (Future-Ready. Innovative. Relevant. Strategic. Trusted.), here’s 1 tip and 1 quote.
The F.I.R.S.T. Tip
Here’s a thought: How many of the goals you set in January are still waiting for action today?
Research shows that only 8% of people achieve their New Year goals (University of Scranton). The rest often get stuck at the aim stage — setting the intention, imagining the result — but never translating it into consistent action. Our brains actually reward us with a dopamine hit just for setting a goal, which tricks us into feeling progress even when no action has been taken.
That’s why the most effective goals are powered by actions that are Simple, Repetitive, and Visible (SRV)
- Simple. The brain resists complex change. Breaking goals into the smallest next step makes action friction-free.
- Repetitive. Repetition wires habits. Daily or weekly consistency turns effort into momentum.
- Visible. What we see, we do — and when actions are visible, accountability rises.
Take a simple example: If your goal is to slim down by 5kg, your action plan could be:
– Simple: Walk 10km. – Repetitive: Do it 4 times a week. – Visible: People around you can see you walking. And as your body changes, the results become visible to you and to others.
Leaders echo this truth:
- Jeff Bezos urged his teams to act fast with 70% of the information.
- Sheryl Sandberg reminded us: “Done is better than perfect.”
So as Q4 begins, ask yourself: Which goal still matters most this year? Then make it Simple, Repetitive, and Visible — and start now.
